Blindness is There Anything To Be Grateful For?

Blindness is There Anything To Be Grateful For?

Blindness

What to write about today? God, what do you want me to write about being thankful for today? Be thankful for your blindness. Huh? What? God, no! I can’t do that. I am enjoying this pity party.

After all, I am lonely. Sometimes, I wish I was not here. If I could drive, there are friends to see, places to go that are so close and yet too far away. Transportation to take me if I had a lot of money.  How can I be thankful for something that limits me so much? I have no one. I want to see a girlfriend and have girl time, and I can’t.  It sucks, and I hate it.

Yet, this is God is saying. Some people try to say, we don’t need to be thankful for everything in our lives, just in everything. But really, what’s the difference? If God works all things out to our good, for those called according to His purpose, as Romans chapter 8 verse 28 says. Then since God is going to make good come out of my being blind. Doesn’t it just make sense I  should be thankful for it?

a woman in a foggy room reaching out

But Lord, I don’t want to! I want people to feel bad for me. I want to get down on myself and think people are excluding me on purpose when they post pictures I can’t see.  Hey, I think I’ll drop my Sunday hosting experience! After all, they sent a picture and all commented on it. They don’t care that I can’t see it.  So instead of that, I used my photo describer app. It told me that the picture was of a rodent looking at the camera. The woman who posted it loves her guinea pigs! So I asked. I said, ok this is what my app told me. By deduction, I figured out it is of a guinea pig, but it must be doing something more than what I was told because of the comments being made. The person came back, we had a good laugh about the description, and she explained the rest.

Blindness

I think it blessed  her. I know it blessed  me. They do care! If I reach out, they do care! Being blind has allowed me to reach out to people and reach some I might not otherwise. It allows me to be vulnerable, and though that is hard, sometimes, that vulnerability causes more intimacy and close relationships with people who make the effort. Many do. Plus, I get to learn about and use such interesting technology that I wouldn’t otherwise even think about. That, I admit, is fun. So I’m trying. It’s going to take me a while to truly get there.  But hey, it’s a start. More to come on this journey of being thankful for blindness. I’m sure there will be more to tell about it along  the way.
