God and Relationships, What Does He Have to Say?

God and Relationships

God and Relationships

Sometimes I just want to hide away and be alone. Relationships can be so hard to navigate. One person thinks this, and the other thinks that. Do the two sides ever meet? I know they do, but what about when it seems impossible for two or more persons to come to an agreement? How does God want us to handle it then? It can be so painful, especially when emotions are involved. When the disagreement is between two very close relatives, friends, or couples. So just how is God and relationships worked together?

God and Relationships?

What do the scriptures, or God’s own words say about relationships?

Proverbs 13:20 20Walk with the wise and become wise, for a companion of fools suffers harm.

I guess God is saying here that we need to choose those who we associate with carefully. But how do we decide who is a food and who is not? How do we do this without being overly judgmental of people?

Matthew 5:22 22But I tell you that anyone who is angry with a brother or sister will be subject to judgment. Again, anyone who says to a brother or sister, ‘Raca,’ is answerable to the court. And anyone who says, ‘You fool!’ will be in danger of the fire of hell.

Here it says we are not to call people fools, but Proverbs says we are not to be companions of fools. I think it is important not to call people hurtful names, but we do not have to associate with them either. Maybe just pray for them and God will work in their hearts.

How do we determine who a fool is? What do God and relationships have to say about this in the bible?

Proverbs 26:18-19 18Like a maniac shooting flaming arrows of death 19is one who deceives their neighbor and says, “I was only joking!”

According to this, a fool is one who deceives another person and then jokes about it. Have you ever done this? Played a prank as a joke? I know I have. I guess He does not like us doing that and as above in Proverbs 13:20 we are to stay away from such people.

Proverbs 28:26 26Those who trust in themselves are fools, but those who walk in wisdom are kept safe.

This one is convicting for me. I feel the need to be in control of all situations. I want to be the one who makes the decisions because then I know if I get hurt I have no one else to blame. But if I am not to trust in myself, but to walk in wisdom just how do we do that?

Ecclesiastes 2:26 26To the person who pleases him, God gives wisdom, knowledge, and happiness, but to the sinner, he gives the task of gathering and storing up wealth to hand it over to the one who pleases God. This too is meaningless, a chasing after the wind.

We gain wisdom as we please Jesus, He blesses us with His wisdom which we could never gain otherwise. To please Him is to serve His people, to praise Him, to learn about him, and to spend time with Him.

When we stay away from fools the disagreements will not be as severe, especially if we are gaining Jesus wisdom for our own lives. He will teach us how to love, and negotiate arguments in a loving manner. If the other person is a fool according to His standards we are called to walk away in a loving way. Not calling them names but to display the wisdom gained from The Lord.

What do you think? Are you possibly the fool? Or are you seeking His wisdom?
