Introduction to Worship – by Pastor John

Welcome all who may read this post! This will be a brief overview of a weekly series on worship – what it is, what is isn’t, who is it for, and why should it matter.

My name is Pastor John Day, and I currently live in central Mississippi. My wife and I have lived here for about three years, having moved from Kentucky, where I first met, then married Karen. Her mother lives about 12 miles from here, and we moved to be closer to her and Karen’s siblings, nieces, and nephews. Her mother is 81 years old and still going pretty strong, by the grace of God.

Moving on to the topic, it occurs when we think something or someone is worthy of our attention, affection, and worthy of our time and effort. What I want to keep us all focused on, myself included, is dialing in our worship to go towards God, and towards Jesus Christ, our Lord, our Savior, our redeemer, and our everything else. Col. 1:15-16 says that He is the invisible God, and that everything is created by Him and for Him. He is the author and finisher of our faith.

Whatever direction this series of writings may take, I pray that in the end, it will all come back to Him. I will close today the way Johann Sebastian Bach closed his music by writing on the bottom of each composition, “Soli Deo Gloria” – to God alone be the glory.

I welcome your comments and encourage you to dig into the Word of God and “see if such things are true.”

Until next time,
Pastor John.

Hi Pastor John! Great to see someone speaking about worship! Touches me as a worship leader myself.

Would love to hear your thoughts!
