Put God first

Put God first in everything you do and say

Put God first

If were to ask you, “do you put God first,” what would be your response? I’m sure most of us would say yes, of course! But let me ask you this, do you pray before meals, do you pray before making decisions? What about praying before or after reading your Bible?

No worries, I’m just as guilty as you guys are. I’m not perfect, but I am getting better. I believe that by putting God first, means being more aware of where He stands in your life, and how you treat Him. Also in how you give up your time just to talk and be with Him. Also asking yourselves “what would Jesus do if He were right here beside me?” How do we know? By reading His Word and talking to Him in prayer.

I’m taking a class right now on prayer, and I learned today that prayer and action go together. What I mean by is this: Let’s say someone is very sick, and needs medical attention. Do you just sit home praying for healing all day? Yes and no. You can, once you get your butt to a doctor to help you. Then if you decide to stay home all day the next day and pray, power to you. So, if you got help from the doctor, and you prayed, did prayer really help or was it the doctor? I believe it’s both because God gave us doctors and others to help us. Your prayers also made a huge impact in your healing, because you’re pouring out your heart to God, and in return, He is helping you get through your sickness, by giving you His comfort and grace.

Put God first

At the beginnings of each day, I want to challenge you to ask yourselves, where you can put God first throughout your day. Most people like myself start off with prayer and reading a few verses. You have to come up with a schedule that works best for you. However, if you feel like everything is going wrong in your lives, how can you not afford to have a relationship with God when all He wants to do is help and comfort you?

Prayer should also be a lifestyle, the way you live and do things. It shouldn’t even be an option. It should just be something you do automatic without even thinking. But you need to work up to that point, and you have to be disciplined and have an open heart for what God is going to say and teach you.

Psalm 73:26 My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.

  1. Well said. I listen to the Daily Audio Bible every morning. That has been a tremendous help in getting and keeping my focus on Jesus.

Would love to hear your thoughts!
