The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want. But why do we want?

The Lord is my shepherd

We’ve all heard this verse in Psalm 23 how the Lord is our shepherd, I shall not want. I don’t know about you, but my problem is, I do want! I want more stuff, I want more friends, I want life to be perfect. However, that’s not reality is it?

I’ve gotten so much better than what I used to be years back. I would want more things thinking “if I only had this I will be happier, I won’t need anything else.” How long did that last though? Around two weeks if that! See you can only buy happiness for about an hour or two. What then? Back to real life, right?

Jesus is the answer

I believe one of the reason why we want so much is because we are searching in something that truly only Jesus can give. Which is love, peace, joy, happiness. I’m not saying it’s ever wrong to want new things, but really search your heart and ask yourself “what’s the real reason why I want this? Am I buying something that only in the end Jesus can make happen and give me? If so, try asking Him for that deep longing before going off buying different things.

The Lord is my Shepherd, I shall not want Psalm 23:1

The Lord is my shepherd

I had to learn this, and it took some time. But the more time I spent with God reading His Word and knowing His heart. He was filling me up inside, and little by little I started wanting less, because He’s truly all I needed. I prayed, “Lord, let everything I desire be yours.” Meaning, if God doesn’t want or desire it in my life, I don’t even want to think about it! I want the heart of God, as do many of you do, I’m sure.

Then there are times when we want our deepest needs met in our families, or personal lives. We just need to remember that the battles we face in life, they aren’t ours but God’s. He see’s everything we go through, and knows our heart. Most of all, He wants to fill you with His peace and love with all the craziness going on around you. He’s waiting on you to let go and give your Heavenly Father control.

The Lord is your Shepperd, and He loves you child of the most High! Give Him your heart, your everything today!

Psalm 23:1-3 The Lord is my shepherd I shall not want. He makes me lay down in green pastures; He leads me besides the still waters. He restore my soul. He leads me in the path of righteousness for His name’s sake.
